Referring a Child
Each wish is as unique as the child who makes it. And, Make-A-Wish® Canada ensures that each wish-granting situation is a one-of-a-kind experience for the child and their family. However, there is a standard process by which a child is referred, qualified and granted a wish.
Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario does not solicit wishes. All children who receive their wishes are referred to us by family, friends, medical personnel or social workers. Sometimes, the child may even refer themselves for a wish.
We always make sure the family is aware of the referral before taking the wish to the next step.
If you have any questions about referring a child for a wish, please contact us now at : 613-234-3555 ext. 146 or eontariochapter@makeawish.ca
Eligibility
Any child, at least 3 years of age, but have not yet reached their 18th birthday, with life-threatening medical conditions may be referred.
Once the referral has been made, Make-A-Wish Eastern Ontario will contact the child’s doctor to determine if the child meets the medical criteria for a wish. Once a child’s medical condition has been verified and the child deemed eligible, the child’s wish will be granted. Make-A-Wish Eastern Ontario takes into consideration all factors as they relate to the wish and the wish child, and then plans the wish accordingly.
Privacy Policy
Make-A-Wish Eastern Ontario respects the privacy of our wish children and their families. All medical and personal information is kept confidential and is not communicated with outside parties unless consent is provided by the child’s parents or guardians and is required for the child's wish.
